5. STACK ELBOWS OVER WRISTS

The principle of stacking is paramount for stability!

Arm balances are all about shifting our center of gravity far enough forward to allow us to stack our joints and bones in a way that makes shapes possible to hold.

When we stack the joints (think elbows over wrists, or hips over shoulders, or even ankles over hips) it allows us to create a solid foundation that distributes our weight evenly.

And when that happens, we have to use less muscular strength to hold the pose, because we are not fighting gravity!

Take Crow Pose.

To fly our crow, we need to align our elbows directly over the wrists. A lot of people try to come into the pose with their elbows far behind their wrists, and their forearms at an angle - that makes it near impossible to get those feet up!

Think about shifting far enough forward so that you can stack elbows over wrists, and only then try lifting those feet!
