35hr Yin Yoga Teacher Training

with Abigail Aller

Your Vinyasa classes are great,

but you’re feeling the pull to go deeper.

While vinyasa is an incredible dynamic practice, it’s not designed to increase flexibility and does little to help your students learn to be in stillness.

I don’t have to tell you that the practice of yoga is about learning to be with yourself - and if all we are ever offering is an opportunity to move quickly, do our students really get a chance to learn how to be STILL in the midst of discomfort?

What would be possible if you had a way of slowing your students down and allow them to discover the stillness within?

Your students complain of pain and excessive tightness in their bodies

and you’re not sure how to help them.

I hear you. Most yoga classes aren’t designed to address movement restrictions and aches and pains that your students may be walking around with.

The practice of Yin yoga goes deep into connective tissues, tendons and ligaments and allows your students to experience a much deeper level of release, especially in areas of the body that have been causing them restriction for a long time.

You love what you teach, but if you’re honest,

you're feeling the itch to expand your toolkit & versatility.

It’s totally normal to come out of a 200 hour teacher training knowing how to teach one style (maybe two if you’re lucky!), and you may be feeling like you’re limited in what you can offer.

Adding in other teaching modalities can help you reach more people, have a bigger impact on your students and increase your opportunities for workshops and offerings.

Why limit yourself when there is such a wide world of movement to explore?

If you resonated with any of this, then Yin Yoga Teacher Training may be the next logical step in your teaching journey.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin is a slow paced style of yoga that incorporates principles of traditional Chinese medicine, and it uses floor based passive postures that are held for much longer periods of time than in the more dynamic styles of yoga, such as vinyasa or ashtanga.

The term Yin comes from the taoist tradition. While Yang relates to dynamism, to movement, to heat, yin is all about calming down, finding the coolness, and essentially coming to stillness, which is the whole principle behind yin. It is finding that still moment.

Unlike other more dynamic styles of yoga, it's not the muscles that we're focusing on with our yin practice. It's actually the deep connective tissues of the body. These are tissues such as fascia, ligaments, joint capsules, and bones.

Yin classes normally consist of poses that keep the student very close to the floor. We very, very rarely stand up. We very rarely get off of our knees, and the poses are held from anywhere to three to ten minutes. Yin poses generally target areas of the body that are very rich in connective tissue - things like the hips and the pelvis, the inner groin, the lower spine.

These connective tissues need a little bit longer to respond to exercise. They're not like the muscles that respond very quickly to dynamic movement. These deep connective tissues have to sit for a few minutes to be able to reap the benefits of the practice.

The long held postures not only help us physically, but they also provide this beautiful contrast to the more dynamic, young paced lives that most of us live.

In one sentence Yin is the practice of stillness and surrender.

It's a practice that encourages people to slow down, to find some calm in probably their crazy lives, and to be still.

Hi, I'm Abi

My love of Yin Yoga began in 2009 when I took an online class with Bernie Clark. I was immediately enamored with the calm and nurturing, yet challenging, aspect of Yin.

I have had the honor of training with several amazing Yin teachers, including the master of Yin himself, Bernie Clark.

I love pairing Yin with aspects of Ayurveda (such as Marma massage, Yogic Philosophy, Meditation, and Pranayama) and incorporating anatomy into my classes and trainings, with a focus on making poses accessible to every body and everybody.

I believe in sharing the teachings of Yin in an accessible, empowering way, allowing you to become the best, and most authentic Yin teacher you can be.
