Breaking Through Fear

mindset Aug 03, 2021

Life has a funny habit of installing fear in us in even the most subtle of ways.

Where, though, does the stress come from? It’s a response to our fear. The human stress response is intended to keep us safe from catastrophic events (like being chased by a velociraptor in prehistoric times).

Prolonged states of fear and stress can result in many chronic illnesses. And if you didn’t know, chronic illnesses make up more than 80% of the current diseases affecting the global population.

You might be asking yourself, “what does this have to do with arm balances and inversions?”

Well, for most people, arm balances and inversions are scary. Do any of these sound familiar?

  • What if I fall?
  • What if I get hurt?
  • What if I try and I can’t? (…and what does that mean about me?)
  • What if I’m not strong enough?
  • What if I’m not flexible enough?

I can assure you that very few people begin their journey with arm balances and inversions and DON’T have these thoughts, these fears.

In the same way that we have fears on the mat, we have fears in our regular lives. They may be a little different, but the premise is the same…

  • What if I fail?
  • What if I disappoint my loved ones?
  • What if I make a mistake?
  • What if I don’t have enough time or enough money?

If you don’t know by now, Yogi Flight School is not only about teaching arm balances and inversions.

Yogi Flight School is about transformation.

Specifically, teaching us how to take the lessons that we learn on the mat and apply them to our lives in order to live in a more fulfilling and balanced way.

What if by practicing arm balances and inversions with the proper instruction and support system, you learned how to quiet your fears? What if you learned how to make friends with your fears, and in turn were empowered to use this same concept in the rest of your life? What if this were the first step towards undoing a way of life that’s kept you small, and perhaps even on the brink of being sick?

What would your life look like if the questions you ask yourself look closer to…

  • What if I fly?
  • What if I can keep myself safe?
  • What if I try and I CAN? (…knowing that trying is the only thing that matters)
  • What if I were able to build my strength and flexibility?
  • What if I succeed?
  • What if I make my loved ones proud? And most importantly, what if I make myself proud?

And what would be possible for you if you were to trust that making mistakes is an unavoidable part of learning, that you will make time for the most important things, and that the money you need will come?

This week’s blog post is intended to challenge your way of thinking, and in some cases, your way of being.

Growth is just on the other side of your fear - and it’s waiting for you. Let’s grow together.
