Being a human being is hard. You land on this earth with no instruction manual, no “You Are Here” sign. Other species are genetically wired to follow one path (like those poor salmon swimming upstream). But you? You’ve got so many possible choices that it can feel totally overwhelming.
Your parents, teachers and friends might help you figure things out, but ultimately it’s up to you to find your path.
And this isn’t just a thing for teenagers fresh out of high school. Plenty of adults hit their 40s or even 80s, and realize they never really found that North Star to guide them. If that’s you, don’t panic! You’re not lost, and it’s not too late. Your vision is still out there.
A life vision is the rainbow you choose to follow, leading you toward that metaphorical pot of gold. It’s the “where” you’re going. Your purpose, on the other hand, is the “why”.
Let’s say you decide to learn handstand (your vision) because you want to prove that consistency can get you anywhere (that’s your purpose!). So you sign up for Yogi Flight School to follow a step-by-step path with a community to support you.
But this is just one example of a vision. They can be simple and focusing on a small area of your world, or they can be massive and fully representative of the entire life that you want to create.
Your vision becomes your inner compass, fueled by a unique mix of your DNA, life experiences, values, and dreams. It’s not a checklist, it’s a direction. One that reflects who you are, who you want to become, and how you want to impact the world.
Without a vision, it’s easy to drift. You might wander in circles, saying yes to things that don’t fulfill you or chasing goals that don’t even belong to you.
That said: experimenting, failing, and trying random stuff? Totally part of the process. But those experiences are only helpful when you don’t let them write false stories like “I’m not good enough” or “It’s too late for me.”
Take me, for example. When I was younger, I dreamed of being a Broadway star. I wanted my voice to matter (this was my vision). Life happened, and while I didn’t end up on stage in NYC, I found my voice (and my people!) through teaching yoga and creating Yogi Flight School. My roadmap changed, but my vision to use my voice to make an impact, stayed the same.
A vision helps you make aligned decisions, navigate detours with grace, and stay rooted even when life throws its inevitable lemons at you.
When you’re a kid, you have a clear and loud inner voice. You know what you love, what makes you feel safe, and who you want to be around. But as you grow up, that voice gets overwritten by the opinions of others, society expectations, and “should’s.”
Finding your vision means tuning back inward.
Start by asking yourself:
Journal. Talk to a friend who asks good questions. Be willing to let your vision evolve, it’s not set in stone. It’s alive, just like you.
So… Now what?
Explore. Your vision won’t show up on a neon billboard. It’s more like a whisper you learn to hear by showing up and paying attention. The more you listen, the louder it gets.
And hey, if your vision happens to include flying on your hands and turning your world upside down, then your next step is crystal clear: Join Yogi Flight School!
You’ll learn to defy gravity on your mat and find a community ready to cheer you on as you discover, or deepen, your life vision.
